Black Lives Matter

June 10, 2020

We must learn not just to accept differences between ourselves and our ideas, but to enthusiastically welcome and enjoy them. If man is to survive, he will have learned to take a delight in the essential differences between men and between cultures. He will learn that differences in ideas and attitudes are a delight, part of life's exciting variety, not something to fear.

The Star Trek Association of Towson, Inc., and the Shore Leave Convention stand by our fellow fans and citizens around the world to demand equality and justice for all who have been denied these basic rights until now. We reject the ideas of racism, prejudice, white supremacy, and the notion that people can be mistreated and ignored because of "otherness." At our monthly club meetings and our annual Shore Leave convention all are welcome regardless of sex, race, religion, sexual orientation, IQ, or physicality.

As the Vulcan idea of IDIC, "Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations," reminds us, our differences are what makes us stronger as a civilization, they enrich not only our cultural offerings such as food, fashion, music, and the arts, but they allow different points of view and different ideas to be brought to the table, resulting in advances in all fields of human endeavor.

We need everyone to participate and everyone to be accepted into the conversation that is our democracy in action. Ultimately this advances us to understand that otherness is not something to be feared but something to be cherished for the new ideas it contributes.
