Laurette Spang

Laurette Spang is an American actress who is best known for her role in the classic science-fiction television series Battlestar Galactica. Even though her time in the spotlight was fairly short, she made a strong impression on fans and became an important part of the show’s legacy.

In Battlestar Galactica (1978), Spang played Cassiopeia, a medtech who traveled with the last survivors of humanity after their worlds were destroyed. Cassiopeia was kind, intelligent, and deeply caring, often helping injured crew members while also dealing with her own difficult past. This made her character feel realistic and emotional instead of just heroic. Laurette Spang’s performance helped show the stress and fear people faced while trying to survive, and many fans appreciated the depth she brought to the role.

After Battlestar Galactica, Laurette Spang decided to step away from acting. In 1980, she married fellow actor Emmy winner John McCook, who is well known for his long-running role as Eric Forrester on the CBS soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful for 39 years. After getting married, Spang focused on her personal life and family rather than continuing her acting career.

She wrote and published The Cliffs of Schizophrenia and has recently finishing a novel that she intends to have published this year. Over the last 6 years she has volunteered in a Los Angeles Hospital ER and at the Getty Center the last 21 years. Although she no longer acts regularly, she is still remembered fondly by fans and sometimes appears at science-fiction conventions.
