Alex Shvartsman
Alex Shvartsman is a writer, translator, game designer, and anthologist from Brooklyn, NY. His
adventures so far have included traveling to over thirty countries, playing a card game for a
living, and building a successful business.
Alex Shvartsman (Brooklyn, NY) is the author of The Best of All Possible Planets (2026),
Kakistocracy (2023), The Middling Affliction (2022), and Eridani’s Crown (2019) novels. Over
150 of his stories and his translations from Russian have appeared in Analog, Asimov’s
Clarkesworld, F&SF, Nature, Reactor, Strange Horizons, and several Year’s Best volumes.
He won the WSFA Small Press Award for Short Fiction, was a three-time finalist for the Canopus
Award for Excellence in Interstellar Fiction and a two-time finalist for the BSFA Award. For a
brief, glorious moment one of his stories was in development as a live action TV series.
Alex has edited over a dozen anthologies, including the long-running Unidentified Funny
Objects series, as well as The Digital Aesthete, The Cackle of Cthulhu, Humanity 2.0 and many
more. He has worked on many games and is presently a Narrative Director for Card Advantage
Games, working on the Reclusion video game.
