Shore Leave 34 Date Change FAQ
- Why did Shore Leave change dates?
- The San Diego Comic-Con has moved its dates to "our" weekend in July.
For us, that means booking actor guests and many of our author guests would be next
to impossible, even if we moved a week before or after Comic-Con
- Shore Leave is on the East Coast. What does San Diego Comic-Con have to do with it?
- In recent years, the Comic-Con has become one of the entertainment industry's
largest events. In addition to panels featuring the entire cast of a show, it also draws
authors, including many of the same authors who attend Shore Leave.
- Leaving Shore Leave 34 on the same weekend as Comic-Con would have not only
reduced our ability to book actors from current and recent TV series and movies, it would have
also forced a number of the "Shore Leave Regulars" to make a difficult choice and had the
potential to eliminate a large swath of our programming.
- Did you know your new dates are close to XYZ Convention's dates?
- There really aren't any weekends without other cons in close proximity.
Even our old dates had competition. We do apologize for any inconvenience caused by the
date change, but it was the best alternative weekend available.
- Did you know your new dates are during the Summer Olympics?
- Shore Leave 32 took place during the World Cup soccer tournament and
many of our attendees enjoyed watching the matches in the hotel's bar alongside Dominic
Keating and other guests. We do insist however that you leave your vuvuzela at home.
- What about 2013?
- We've learned that Comic-Con will be staying on the second weekend of July for the
forseeable future. We plan to remain on the first weekend of August.
